Keith Thurman and Tim Tszyu could meet this summer on a non-PPV platform, according to Dan Rafael. The pair was initially set to clash on March 30 of last year, but Thurman withdrew due to a biceps injury. Now, both fighters plan to take tune-up bouts before attempting to reschedule their canceled showdown.
Thurman, 36, returns on March 12 against Brock Jarvis in Sydney, hoping to avoid further injuries that have hampered his career. "One Time" has fought only three times in the past eight years, and some critics are pretty skeptical about his current form. His inactivity and lingering health issues pf course raise doubts as to whether he can effectively prepare for Tszyu.
Tszyu, a former WBO junior middleweight titleholder, has seen his career hit a rough patch, losing back-to-back fights against Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev. The latter was a punishing third-round knockout in which Tszyu was dropped four times.
Now, it remains to be seen if both fighters can rebound and come into the summer clash at full strength. If Thurman makes it past Jarvis without injury and Tszyu regains his confidence, they’ll have the chance to settle unfinished business in a fight that could determine which of them still has a future among the 154-pound elite.
