Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano's November rematch continues to scoop up accolades, recently named Women’s Fight of the Year by the WBA. Their ten-round thriller - featuring razor-thin scoring, non-stop action, and significant bloodshed - was previously recognized by ESPN.com for the same honor. The bout also allegedly shattered records as the most-watched women’s sporting event in history, reaching an estimated 74 million viewers on Netflix.
Now we anticipate a third clash in this action-packed series. Promoter Eddie Hearn has thrown down the gauntlet, saying he hopes to stage the trilogy at Dublin’s iconic Croke Park, fulfilling Taylor’s lifelong dream to perform before a crowd of up to 70,000 fans in her home country. Hearn, who calls the Irish star "probably the greatest sportsperson [he’s] ever worked with," believes such a blockbuster rubber match has the potential to fill that massive venue.
The two fights so far, one in New York and the sequel in Texas, have each delivered near-constant excitement. Serrano insists she should have been declared the winner both times, while Taylor believes the decisions were correct. A final showdown at Croke Park could answer all questions, and Hearn says the money and the buzz are certainly there to make it happen. Whether Jake Paul might also lend a hand is an open question, but Hearn is hopeful: "Serrano and Taylor could fight ten times - each one would be Fight of the Year."
