Gervonta Davis has been ordered to defend his WBA lightweight title against Floyd Schofield, with the sanctioning body giving both sides until June 22 to reach a deal. If no agreement is made by then, the fight will head to a purse bid.

Schofield is the WBA’s No. 1 contender and has been waiting for his opportunity. He has not fought since knocking out former champion Tevin Farmer in the first round last June, but the WBA has now put him directly in line for Davis.

Davis has also been inactive, having last fought Lamont Roach to a draw in March 2025. He initially triggered his immediate rematch clause after that bout, but later moved toward an exhibition with Jake Paul, which ultimately fell apart.

Outside the ring, Davis has been dealing with serious legal issues, including a civil lawsuit and an arrest earlier this year after a warrant was issued on charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping.

There had also been talks about Davis returning against Isaac Cruz, whom he defeated by decision in 2021. But if Davis wants to keep the WBA lightweight title, the next step should be making a deal with Schofield.
