Top Rank has issued a statement condemning the “appalling” incident in which a box of watermelons and bananas was sent to Keyshawn Davis’ hotel room ahead of his February 14th WBO lightweight title fight against Denys Berinchyk. With no proof as to who sent the basket, rumors on social media point to rival Teofimo Lopez, although Davis publicly blamed Berinchyk and labeled him “racist” during a tense press conference. In social media fans suggest Davis may have fabricated the controversy to draw sympathy or hype the fight, but the 24-year-old challenger denies that claim. Top Rank, meanwhile, has reaffirmed its support for Davis, expressing hope that the fight narrative will return to what happens in the ring. Davis has drawn attention with a first-round knockout prediction, while Berinchyk dismissed Davis’ accusations and remains focused on defending his belt.

Fight experts Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora offered their takes on Davis’ chances against the 36-year-old Berinchyk, who is seen as an awkward switch-hitter but not a knockout puncher. Both commentators called the matchup a “calculated risk” for Davis - a talented prospect who’s eyeing potential unifications or showdowns with stars like Gervonta Davis or Teofimo Lopez. Critics, however, note Davis has yet to face Andy Cruz, who defeated him multiple times in the amateurs.
