Frank Warren says he is comfortable with his current business arrangement with Tyson Fury, but admits that neither Queensberry nor Matchroom would be able to promote Fury’s proposed fight with Anthony Joshua if it lands on Netflix.
Fury recently appeared at the UFC White House event and later claimed on social media that Turki Alalshikh would be his promoter until the end of his career. Warren, however, insisted that nothing has changed from his side.
“Tyson hasn’t signed for anybody,” Warren said. “I have my arrangement which I’m very, very comfortable with and we have a business relationship that has worked really well.”
Warren also said he was not surprised to see Fury in the United States and was pleased that the former heavyweight champion appears able to enter the country again. As for where Fury-Joshua might take place, Warren said no decision has been made, though he still believes the fight belongs in the UK because both men are British.
The broadcast situation may be the key issue. Warren explained that Queensberry has an exclusive UK deal with DAZN, while Matchroom is in a similar position. If Fury-Joshua is staged on Netflix, Warren says that would block both promoters from handling the event.
“As far as Tyson’s fight with Joshua, that will be on Netflix,” Warren said. “If the fight was in the UK and on Netflix, we couldn’t promote it anyway. Eddie Hearn’s in the same position.”
