In the wake of David Adeleye’s suspension, promoter Frank Warren is keen to set up a bout between Adeleye and English heavyweight champion Solomon Dacres. This potential matchup is targeted for the Queensberry’s “Magnificent Seven Ride Again” card on March 16th in Birmingham. The fight’s feasibility, however, hinges on the resolution of Adeleye’s disciplinary issues with the British Boxing Board of Control.
Adeleye’s suspension stems from his actions following a seventh-round stoppage by Fabio Wardley in their British title fight last October. After the match’s conclusion, Adeleye exhibited inappropriate behavior by pushing the referee and throwing a punch. Currently awaiting a hearing, his suspension casts uncertainty over his immediate boxing future.
Warren, expressing his desire to see this fight materialize, views it as an excellent opportunity for both fighters. For Adeleye (12-1, 11 KOs), it’s a chance to redeem himself following his defeat and suspension. On the other hand, Dacres (8-0, 2 KOs) aims to enhance his reputation following a less-than-stellar performance in his last outing. Dacres narrowly retained his title against Michael Webster in November, a fight he took at short notice.
Dacres, a talented amateur and undefeated professional, is keen to assert himself as a leading figure among Britain’s young heavyweights. His next appearance under the Queensberry banner presents an opportunity to showcase his potential and make a significant statement in the division.
The fight between Adeleye and Dacres, if it occurs, would be pivotal for both. For Adeleye, it's a must-win to reestablish his credibility at the domestic level after his loss to Wardley. For Dacres, it’s a chance to demonstrate his skills and justify his ambitions in the heavyweight mix.
