Oleksandr Usyk has weighed in on a potential heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, predicting that Joshua comes out on top. When asked how he sees the hypothetical matchup ending, Usyk kept it simple, saying, ”Maybe it is Anthony Joshua…maybe it is points.”
Usyk’s opinion carries weight given his track record against both fighters. The Ukrainian southpaw recently scored a second victory over Fury in Saudi Arabia - outboxing and stunning him multiple times en route to a unanimous decision. Before that, Usyk defeated Joshua twice in back-to-back fights in 2021 and 2022. From those clashes, Usyk gained insight into each man’s strengths and weaknesses, now forecasting that AJ’s power, speed, and athleticism would give him the edge against “The Gypsy King.”
Fury, 36, looked out of shape and sluggish in his rematch with Usyk, wearing his trunks high on his midsection and weighing in at 281 lbs. Many observers, including promoter Eddie Hearn, believe Fury’s next logical move is a blockbuster fight against Joshua in 2025. Hearn has even floated the possibility of a two-fight series - one at London’s Wembley Stadium, and another in Saudi Arabia.
While Hearn maintains that Fury is still near his peak, critics argue that the former WBC champion looked far from his best last weekend. Fury’s diminished form has fueled speculation about how he might fare against Joshua, who is seeking a career-resurrecting win of his own. If the fight does happen in 2025, it would stand as one of the most significant events in British boxing history - a chance for Fury to regain lost stature and for Joshua to fulfill Usyk’s prediction.
