Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital and will remain in Nigeria as he continues to recover from injuries sustained in a fatal road accident earlier this week. The former heavyweight champion was involved in a crash on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major highway linking Ogun State to Lagos.

The vehicle carrying Anthony Joshua collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of two of his close associates, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was part of his training team. Joshua sustained injuries in the crash but avoided life-threatening harm.

According to the Lagos state commissioner for information, Joshua was discharged on Wednesday after being deemed clinically fit to recuperate from home. His promoter, Matchroom Boxing, confirmed that Joshua was released from hospital and will stay in Nigeria for the coming days as he recovers.

Following his discharge, Joshua paid his respects to his late friends at the morgue. Just hours before the accident, Joshua and Ayodele had shared social media clips of themselves playing table tennis together, underscoring how sudden the tragedy was.

Joshua has strong personal ties to Nigeria, where he has family roots and previously attended boarding school as a child. He also holds Nigerian nationality. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
