Tim Tszyu has been moved up to the WBO No. 1 contender position at junior middleweight in the organization’s latest rankings.
The change comes after Xander Zayas lost his unified titles to Jaron “Boots” Ennis last weekend, forcing a reshuffle in the WBO’s 154lb rankings.
Tszyu was previously ranked No. 3 and now moves ahead of Brandon Adams, who had held the No. 1 spot despite limited recent activity. Zayas has been placed at No. 3 after his defeat to Ennis.
The ranking boost comes ahead of Tszyu’s July 25 fight with Errol Spence Jr. at Afterpay Arena in Sydney, Australia. Spence is not currently ranked by the WBO.
Tszyu previously held the WBO junior middleweight title before losing it to Sebastian Fundora by split decision in March 2024. Since then, he has recorded wins over Joey Spencer, Anthony Velazquez and Denis Nurja.
He has also suffered defeats to Bakhram Murtazaliev and Fundora in their rematch, but the new WBO ranking puts him back in position for a potential title opportunity if he beats Spence.
