The decision regarding whether Chris Eubank Jr. would use his rematch clause to force a rematch with Liam Smith will be made in a "few weeks," according to promoter Kalle Sauerland.

The boxing community advises Eubank to forgo a rematch with Smith because he isn't physically capable of winning at 160 pounds and his punch resistance isn't high enough.

Following this defeat, Eubank is left with few viable options, which might force him to accept the rematch with Liam. Eubank Jr. intended to challenge Gennady Golovkin and Conor Benn in 2023 before falling to Smith but those contests are unfortunately no longer on the table for him.

Ideally, 33-year-old Eubank Jr. should move back to the super middleweight division, where he won't be so vulnerable to chin injuries. However, it's debatable whether he can still compete against the best boxers at his age.

“We obviously have that rematch clause, but we’ll let the dust settle,” Kalle Sauerland said. “We’ve got a few weeks to activate that. We’ll take an internal discussion, see what the best way forward is for Jr and go from there.”
