Terence Crawford’s trainer, known as “BoMac”, was not impressed by Errol Spence Jr.’s performance during their recent fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Crawford, from Omaha, Nebraska, knocked down Spence three times before stopping the Texan in the ninth round, in what turned out to be more of a mismatch than a competitive bout.
BoMac described Spence as “slow” and “basic”, contradicting predictions that Spence would present Crawford with the toughest challenge of his career. “After the first round, he was slow as sh!t. He’s slow. He’s got that will and determination but … He was slow. Look at the counters. Counters (Crawford’s) was fast as sh!t. He (Spence) was basic,” McIntyre said in an interview with FightHype.
BoMac further explained that “simple” strategies led to Crawford’s victory over Spence. He stressed the importance of movement against Spence, advising against staying still in the middle of the ring and advocating for side to side movement when closer to the ropes.
Crawford and Spence may have a rematch later this year, with the weight class dependent on Crawford’s decision, provided Spence chooses to invoke his rematch clause.
