Teofimo Lopez has criticized the instructions he received from his father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr., during his defeat to Shakur Stevenson.

Lopez was comprehensively outboxed by Stevenson in January, losing his 140-pound title by unanimous decision after winning just one round.

“When you got your father in that moment … and your trainer is not giving you instructions - they’re just talking you down … all roads lead to defeat,” Lopez said.

Despite his frustration with the corner work, Lopez has kept his father as head trainer ahead of his move to welterweight.

The 29-year-old will challenge WBA champion Rolando Romero on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as he attempts to become a three-division world champion.
