WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was booked into Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Friday morning, facing a misdemeanor battery charge after an alleged Father’s Day assault on the mother of two of his children. According to the Doral Police report, the 30-year-old arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s home on June 15 to pick up the kids, but a verbal dispute over “personal matters” and “insecurities about the sexuality of their son” spiraled into violence. She claims Davis struck her in the back of the head with a closed fist and slapped her before revving his car menacingly. The woman later sought hospital treatment, and investigators noted roughly a dozen prior undocumented altercations.
Davis was arrested in Miami Beach, transferred to Doral PD custody, and released on a $10,000 bond; he’s due back in court July 29. The incident is the latest in a string of legal troubles for the Baltimore-born star, whose résumé already includes domestic-violence arrests and multiple traffic offenses. A December 2022 charge for allegedly striking another woman was dismissed, but the pattern continues to shadow one of boxing’s biggest box-office attractions.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Davis’ sporting agenda. Premier Boxing Champions had been eyeing an August rematch with Lamont Roach Jr., after their controversial majority draw in March, yet no formal announcement has materialized. With Tank’s legal status now uncertain, the bout may be placed on hold pending the results of July’s hearing.
Davis remains unbeaten inside the ropes, but outside them the knockdowns keep coming.
