WBC junior lightweight champion Subriel Matias’ second reign is in immediate jeopardy after testing positive for the banned substance ostarine during VADA testing. The finding arrives less than two months before his scheduled January 10 title defense against Dalton Smith in Brooklyn.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that the organization received notification of an adverse result and has launched a formal investigation under the Clean Boxing Program protocol. Sulaiman said he has spoken with Matias and his promoter, both of whom expressed full cooperation as the process begins.

Matias has until December 1 to request the testing of his B-sample and until that result is returned, they declined further comment, but historically, B-samples rarely differ from the A-sample, making Matias’ title status at significant risk.

If the B-sample confirms the presence of ostarine, Matias could be stripped of the WBC title, and the January 10 event may collapse. The New York State Athletic Commission previously handed Ryan Garcia a one-year suspension after he tested positive for the same substance following his 2024 fight with Devin Haney so the same can be expected in this situation.
