Errol Spence Jr. has spoken candidly about ongoing health concerns as he prepares to return to the ring against Tim Tszyu on July 25, nearly three years after his last fight.

Spence has not competed since his ninth-round stoppage loss to Terence Crawford, a defeat that saw him relinquish his WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight titles. The one-sided nature of that bout raised questions about his condition, particularly given the serious car accident he survived years earlier.

That crash left Spence with significant dental and facial injuries, and he has now explained that his speech is affected by dentures stemming from that incident. “My speech has always been kind of slurred with these teeth,” he said, while also acknowledging that concerns about his health are understandable.

Despite those issues, Spence pointed out that he successfully returned after the accident, earning wins over Danny Garcia and Yordenis Ugas before facing Crawford. Still, some believe the long-term effects of the trauma have impacted his performances.
