Skye Nicolson is a world champion again after being awarded the vacant WBC super bantamweight title. The belt became available when unified champion Ellie Scotney chose to move up in weight, ending Nicolson’s push for an undisputed fight with the British champion.

Nicolson previously held the WBC featherweight title before moving down to super bantamweight. She had been calling for a fight with Scotney for all the belts, but with Scotney now moving on, the Australian southpaw has instead been elevated to full champion.

“Disappointed not to get my shot at undisputed but proud to be a world champion again,” Nicolson wrote on social media. “Two division world champion sounds nice but there is still much more to come!”

Matchroom has also confirmed that an agreement is in place for Nicolson to face another two-weight champion, Miyo Yoshida, next. Nicolson welcomed the matchup, saying: “I look forward to the challenge of Miyo Yoshida next and being part of some of the biggest fights in the sport. BIG FIGHTS ONLY.”

The 30-year-old has won four straight since losing her featherweight title by split decision to Tiara Brown last year. Her most recent win came in April, when she outpointed Mariah Turner to claim the WBC interim title.
