Floyd Schofield is really confident ahead of his February 22 clash against Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Despite being the underdog in the eyes of oddsmakers, Schofield believes his power will not only topple Stevenson, but also break his spirit in the ring. He dismisses talk of any existing injuries Shakur may have, insisting he wants the champ at full health so there can be no excuses afterward.
Schofield also took aim at Stevenson’s sparring with a retired Shawn Porter, scoffing at the idea that it provides any real preparation for what he brings to the table. The 22-year-old knockout artist promises to hunt Stevenson down and find out if the Newark native can withstand consistent punishment. He recalls how other opponents have played into Stevenson’s patient style, but claims he’ll offer relentless pressure that forces the champion to fight toe-to-toe.
