Tokyo witnessed a historic moment in boxing as the Shigeoka brothers, Ginjiro and Yudai, both clinched world strawweight titles on the same card. This marked the first instance of siblings securing major world titles in the same weight category during the same event.

Ginjiro Shigeoka (10-0, 8 KOs), triumphed over Daniel Valladares of Mexico in the fifth round, capturing the IBF title. Their previous bout in January had ended in a no contest. Post that, Ginjiro defeated Rene Mark Cuarto, enhancing his record and winning the interim IBF belt. Now, at just 23, he proudly holds the full title in the 105-pound category.

On the same card, Yudai Shigeoka (8-0, 5 KOs) showcased his boxing skills, decisively defeating Thailand’s Panya Pradabsri (40-2, 24 KOs). Yudai’s victory was marked by scores of 119-109, 119-109, and 117-111, earning him the WBC belt. Their initial bout was scheduled for April but got postponed due to Pradabsri’s illness. This led Yudai to face Wilfredo Mendez, whom he defeated, securing the interim WBC championship. Now, mirroring his younger brother Ginjiro, Yudai too holds a prestigious world title.

Both the Shigeoka brothers have made rapid strides in their boxing careers. Ginjiro turned professional in 2018, while Yudai started his pro journey in 2021. Their achievements are noteworthy, with both securing world titles in a short span. As the reigning champions in the 105-pound division, the boxing world is keenly watching the Shigeoka siblings, anticipating their next moves.
