Shane Mosley has confidently expressed that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is far from being past his prime as he prepares to face Jaime Munguia this Saturday.
At Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, during the Cinco de Mayo weekend celebrations, Alvarez, who is 33 years old and six years Munguia’s senior, will defend his undisputed super middleweight title. Despite a previous defeat to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 raising questions about his career’s trajectory, Alvarez has remained resilient, continuing to secure victories although his last three opponents survived the full 12 rounds.
Reflecting on his own bout with Alvarez back in 2012, Mosley, who has since retired and watched Alvarez climb to the pinnacle of boxing, is assured of Alvarez’s capabilities. Mosley himself, once revered at the height of his career, sees a reflection of that enduring spirit in Alvarez. He praised Munguia as well, anticipating a riveting match:
”He’s got a lot of fight in him. He’s only 33 years old. I was still fighting at 46, so he should be alright. But I think Munguia is really good as well. It should be pretty interesting. I think it’ll be a great fight and I’m looking forward to seeing the fight – I think it’s going to be action-packed.”

Mosley highlighted Alvarez’s adept counterpunching and speed, noting his ability to time his strikes meticulously, making him a formidable contender in the ring. Munguia, described by Mosley as tough and aggressive, enjoys engaging directly with his opponents, adding another layer of challenge for Alvarez.
Mosley, who has also worked closely with Oscar De La Hoya post-retirement, commented on the strained relationship between Alvarez and De La Hoya, hinting at personal disputes stemming from De La Hoya’s actions affecting their professional interactions.
