Shakur Stevenson has identified Gary Antuanne Russell as the most dangerous opponent he could face at super lightweight. The undefeated American is currently weighing his options after recent developments involving the WBC disrupted his plans across multiple weight divisions.

Stevenson had moved up to 140 pounds and defeated Teofimo Lopez to win the WBO super-lightweight world title. His intention had been to return to 135 pounds afterward and defend his WBC lightweight belt, but the sanctioning body later stripped him of that title, leaving his future weight class uncertain.

The Newark southpaw is now considering whether to remain at super lightweight, return to lightweight or potentially move up further. However, he has ruled out a move to welterweight for the time being as he evaluates the best opportunities available.

During a fan Q&A on X, Stevenson was asked to rank several potential opponents - Ryan Garcia, Raymond Muratalla, O’Shaquie Foster, Gary Antuanne Russell and Dalton Smith. Stevenson said Garcia would be his preferred opponent due to the commercial appeal of the fight but acknowledged that Russell presents the biggest challenge in the division.

Russell captured the WBA super-lightweight title last year by defeating José Valenzuela and most recently defended the belt in a demanding bout against Andy Hiraoka. Stevenson noted that a fight with Russell would be a compelling matchup and could potentially lead to a unification at 140 pounds.
