Shakur Stevenson is ramping up his efforts to secure a fight with William Zepeda, expressing frustration with what he perceives as Golden Boy Promotions’ reluctance to start negotiations. Taking to social media, Stevenson went as far as labeling Zepeda and his promoters “Fake Mexicans,” even offering to fight in an 18-foot ring to get the bout made.

Zepeda, who earned a split-decision victory over Tevin Farmer last weekend in Riyadh, remains the WBC’s top contender at lightweight. However, his team appears to be exploring other options. Reports suggest Golden Boy Promotions may prioritize a matchup with WBA champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

A potential Zepeda-Tank clash has the makings of a major event, drawing on Zepeda’s fan base and crossover appeal. Tank, who is set to face Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, could meet Zepeda in a summer blockbuster that overshadows a Stevenson showdown. This leaves Shakur, the WBC lightweight champion, in a holding pattern as he waits for his next opponent to be confirmed.

Stevenson has made it clear he’s willing to make concessions to get Zepeda in the ring. “I’ll fight him in an 18-foot ring if that’s what it takes,” Stevenson stated, showing his determination to prove himself against the Mexican contender.
