Ryan Garcia will enter the next phase of his career under the guidance of the man who trained him first - his father, Henry Garcia.
Henry Garcia trained his son from the age of nine through his first 13 professional bouts, producing 12 knockouts. He says the experience gained from stepping aside and learning under other high-level trainers has now made him a more complete coach. “Nobody knows my son better than I do,” Henry said, emphasizing the trust and shorthand they share in the gym.
The reunion comes at a critical moment. Garcia is scheduled to challenge Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title on February 21 in Las Vegas. Barrios will be cornered by Joe Goossen - previous coach of KingRy.
Henry Garcia believes past setbacks, including weight issues, a suspension, and a loss to Rolando Romero, were rooted in his son not being fully healthy or mentally ready. He insists that is no longer the case. According to Henry, KingRy is finally training pain-free and with renewed focus.
The elder Garcia also pointed to the unique connection between father and son as a competitive advantage, noting that brief instructions carry immediate understanding. With lessons absorbed from multiple championship-level trainers and years of adversity behind them, the Garcias see this title shot as the moment everything aligns.
“This is God’s time,” Henry Garcia said. “Ryan is 100 percent right now. For this fight, people will see the best Ryan.”
