Boxing legend Roberto Duran doesn’t hand out praise lightly, and after watching Dominican featherweight Luis Reynaldo Nunez up close, Duran came away convinced he’s looking at a future world champion. “That kid has some explosive hand speed and power,” Duran said. “No doubt in my mind that he is going to be a world champion.”

That reaction came ringside following Nunez’s recent first-round stoppage, a performance that may have been brief, but clearly made an impression. Even against limited opposition, the 26-year-old showed flashes - sharp, aggressive, and exactly the kind of style that catches attention quickly.

Nunez is being guided by experienced coach Bob Santos, with Roberto Duran Jr. also part of the team. “Who better to know than Duran?” Santos said, reflecting on the legend’s reaction.

There’s already ambition behind the scenes. Nunez’s team has their eyes on Rafael Espinoza, widely viewed as the man to beat at 126lbs after his wins over Robeisy Ramirez. But realistically, that kind of fight may still be a step away.

A more immediate path could lead toward IBF champion Angelo Leo, with Nunez already sitting high in the rankings. For now, though, it’s about building momentum, and making sure moments like this become the norm, not the exception.
