Quebec, Canada, renowned for its vibrant boxing scene since the 2000s, is set to host another significant boxing event featuring Artur Beterbiev defending his title against Callum Smith. This event, taking place at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City and promoted by Eye of the Tiger, is a testament to the province’s rich boxing history and its current status as a key player in the sport.

The golden era of Quebec boxing saw fighters like Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute, Adonis Stevenson, and David Lemieux captivating audiences and becoming mainstays on HBO and Showtime. Their impact was marked by intense provincial and French pride, creating some of the most engaged crowds on television. Now, Beterbiev, a Russian-born light heavyweight champion who has been embraced by the Canadian audience, is the flag-bearer for Quebec boxing. While his biggest career moments have largely occurred outside Canada, his upcoming title defense in Quebec City is seen as a significant homecoming event.

Despite not yet experiencing a major fight in Canada like his predecessors, Beterbiev’s upcoming bout against Smith is eagerly anticipated. Promoter Camille Estephan expressed gratitude for the strong response from Quebecers, confirming Quebec’s status as one of the top boxing cities globally.

The fight is also seen as a setup for a future showdown between Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Saudi Arabia, reigniting an amateur rivalry and determining the best 175-pounder on the planet. Smith, however, aims to disrupt these plans, stating his confidence in his abilities and intention to defeat Beterbiev.

The undercard features fighters like Christian Mbilli and Leila Beaudoin, showcasing the next generation of Quebec-based talent. Mbilli, in particular, has gained attention for his dynamic style and is set to face Rohan Murdock.
