Michael Eifert has waited three years for this moment, and now his long-delayed world title shot has finally arrived. The German light heavyweight will face Dmitry Bivol on Saturday at UMMC Arena in Ekaterinburg, Russia, with Bivol’s Ring, IBF, WBA and WBO 175lbs titles on the line.
Eifert earned his position back in 2023, when he defeated former world champion Jean Pascal by unanimous decision in an IBF title eliminator. Since then, he has boxed only once, while Bivol and Artur Beterbiev went through two close fights and Bivol later recovered from back surgery.
“It was a long wait, a real rollercoaster,” Eifert told The Ring. “I had to learn patience, but knowing what I was waiting for helped: A chance to fight for four belts.”
For Eifert, the opportunity is bigger than just a mandatory shot. It is the kind of fight he says he has wanted since he was a child. “A fight like that is my dream since childhood,” he said. “In the end, every bit of waiting was worth it.”
The challenge could hardly be tougher. Bivol returns as one of the most skilled fighters in the sport and still holds nearly all the major titles at light heavyweight. But for Eifert, after years of waiting, the chance itself is finally here - and now he gets 12 rounds to try to turn patience into history.
