The much-anticipated bout between boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios may be slipping away, according to Barrios’ trainer, Bob Santos. Santos shared that while both sides were interested, Pacquiao’s political commitments in the Philippines might prevent the fight from happening soon. The 45-year-old Pacquiao is preparing for a likely senate run in early 2025, putting his boxing plans on hold.

Meanwhile, Barrios, the WBC interim welterweight titleholder, is set to face Abel Ramos for the WBC welterweight championship on November 15, on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Texas. This will be a significant test for Barrios, whose recent victory over Fabian Andres Maidana extended his winning streak to three after back-to-back losses to Gervonta Davis and Keith Thurman.

Santos expressed respect for Ramos' abilities, recognizing him as a tough competitor. "I know Abel Ramos very well. I’ve watched his fights, seen him in the gym. It’s gonna be a tough fight, but we feel confident that we’re going to be victorious," Santos stated.

For Ramos, this fight is a critical opportunity to revive his career, as he has managed only two wins in his last five outings. Santos remains cautious, noting that boxing is unpredictable: "Anytime you go in against anybody, they’ve got two hands just like the other guy. That’s what makes boxing a great sport."
