Promoter Bob Arum has shown interest in the idea of Teofimo Lopez stepping up to the 147-pound category to challenge Brian Norman Jr. For his WBO welterweight championship before considering a bout with Terence Crawford. Lopez Sr., Teofimo's father, will need to approve this potential match as Norman Jr. brings a formidable challenge with his strength and resilience. Arum is concerned that Norman Jr. Could prove to be a tough opponent for Teo, especially considering Teo's vulnerabilities under pressure.

Teofimo Lopez, aged 26, seems prepared for the welterweight division based on his appearance during the weigh-in ahead of his upcoming bout against Steve Claggett. Recent training sessions indicate that he possesses the physical attributes of a junior middleweight and should contemplate competing in either the 147 or 154-pound categories. However, Teofimo might have reservations about moving up weight classes due to having enjoyed physical advantages over his opponents at 140 pounds similar to Devin Haney.

Lopez has expressed his eagerness to face Crawford at either 147 or 154 pounds, stressing his desire for this matchup sooner rather than later given Crawford's age of 36 and uncertain future in boxing. Additionally, Teofimo has voiced interest in fighting Gervonta Davis at 140 pounds despite Davis not showing enthusiasm for such a fight.

Arum recognized Lopez's potential in his career and mentioned, "We've been with Lopez throughout his journey and there are plenty of exciting matchups ahead for him. However, Claggett won't be an easy opponent." While Arum envisions a future fight with Crawford, he first proposes a matchup against Brian Norman Jr. At 147 pounds. Arum commented on Claggett saying, "I'm not too familiar with him, but he's a resilient fighter who will give Lopez a tough challenge. In my opinion, Lopez ranks among the elite fighters of today."

By suggesting a bout against Brian Norman Jr., Arum hopes to assess Lopez's capabilities in the welterweight category before potentially arranging a high stakes showdown with Crawford.
