The heavyweight clash between Moses Itauma and Jermaine Franklin has been postponed after Itauma suffered an injury in training. Originally scheduled for January 24 at Manchester’s Co-op Live, the bout has now been rescheduled for March 28 at the same venue.
The fight was viewed as a significant step up one of boxing’s fastest-rising heavyweight prospects. Still yet to go beyond six rounds as a professional, Itauma was set to face his most durable test to date in Franklin, who has never been stopped in his career.
Franklin has proven his toughness at the highest level, going the distance in both of his defeats against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. That resilience made him a logical opponent as Itauma continues his climb toward the upper tier of the heavyweight division.
The postponement also affects the rest of the event, billed as the “Magnificent 7” card. A domestic light heavyweight showdown between Willy Hutchinson and Ezra Taylor has likewise been moved to March 28. Hutchinson is coming off a strong stoppage win over Mark Jeffers, while the unbeaten Taylor is seeking a breakthrough test at 175 pounds.
Also remaining intact for the rescheduled date are a featherweight contest between Liam Davies and Zak Miller, along with a middleweight bout featuring Shakiel Thompson against Brad Paul.
