Moses Itauma believes Tyson Fury’s July 24 fight with Mariusz Wach is more interesting than it may first appear, despite having stopped the veteran himself in two rounds in July 2024.
Fury will face the 46-year-old Wach at the Max Muaythai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand, one day before Anthony Joshua’s warm-up fight against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah. The bout comes ahead of a potential Fury-Joshua clash expected later this year, meaning neither British heavyweight can afford a major setback.
The event is also being framed around charity, with Fury claiming all proceeds will go to “starving and homeless children” in Pattaya. The WBC is also set to present him with an inaugural humanitarian belt for the occasion.
Itauma told IFL TV that Wach may not directly mirror Joshua’s style, but still brings qualities that make the fight worth watching. “I wouldn’t say it’s a similar style to Joshua, but Wach is similar in some ways,” Itauma said. “Wach’s a madman.”
The unbeaten heavyweight also recalled bringing Wach in for sparring and being surprised by the veteran’s attitude. “He didn’t even ask me for flights, accommodation or how much he was going to get paid. He just said yes,” Itauma said.
Fury’s fight with Wach follows his unanimous decision win over Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, which ended 16 months of inactivity.
