A hand injury suffered by Mike Tyson has cast uncertainty over his planned exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather, which had been targeted for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The matchup between the two boxing legends was first announced in September, with the bout expected to headline a major exhibition event. However, Tyson recently appeared with a cast on his hand during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, revealing he had suffered the injury while training.

According to Tyson, the issue occurred during intense training sessions. The former heavyweight champion described the injury as a sprain but acknowledged that it could potentially affect the scheduled fight date.

Tyson last fought in November 2024 when he returned to the ring for a widely discussed bout against Jake Paul. The fight marked his first professional appearance since 2005, and he ultimately lost by unanimous decision.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has continued competing in exhibition bouts since retiring from professional boxing in 2017. He is also expected to return to official competition later this year in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao scheduled for September 19 at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

The planned fight with Tyson was set to begin a busy schedule for Mayweather, with another exhibition against kickboxer Mike Zambidis reportedly planned for June. With those commitments already in place, any delay caused by Tyson’s injury could complicate attempts to reschedule the bout if the April date falls through.
