Two-weight world champion Mikaela Mayer has declared her interest in facing Ireland’s Katie Taylor, potentially setting up a major showdown should Taylor decide to return to the ring.

Mayer is preparing to fight in Canada for the first time in her career on October 30, when she challenges Mary Spencer for the WBA super-welterweight title. A win would make her a three-division world champion, having already collected belts at super-featherweight and welterweight.

Taylor recently vacated her WBC super-lightweight title, ending her run as a two-weight undisputed champion. The Irish star is currently on hiatus for personal reasons but was named ‘Champion-in-Recess’ by the WBC, keeping the door open for a future return. Her departure elevated Chantelle Cameron to full champion status.

Rumours of a trilogy bout between Taylor and Cameron continue to swirl, while speculation also lingers about Taylor’s long-desired dream fight at Dublin’s Croke Park. Mayer said she would gladly step in as the opponent if that opportunity arises. “I’ve always wanted to fight Katie,” she said. “We’ve reached out to Matchroom. They know we’re available. If she does want one more fight at Croke Park, I’m willing to go to Ireland to get that done.”

Despite her eagerness, Mayer was quick to praise Taylor’s legacy and left the decision in her hands. “I know she’s mandated to fight Chantelle. I don’t know what she’s going to do, it’s up to her. I respect whatever decision she makes. I would love to be called upon for her final fight if that’s what she’s looking to do.”
