The Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico, witnessed a night of intense boxing action. In the spotlight was WBC super featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster (21-2, 12 KOs) who faced off against the formidable Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez (34-2, 31 KOs).
Foster’s resilience was on full display as he managed a stunning twelfth-round technical knockout victory over Hernandez. Despite being behind on two of the scorecards, Foster turned the tables in the final round, dropping Hernandez twice. The referee intervened at 2:38 of the twelfth round, seeing Hernandez in a bad state. Prior to this dramatic finish, the eleventh round saw both fighters in trouble, with each landing significant blows that left the other stunned.
In another bout, Australian heavyweight Justis Huni (8-0, 4 KOs) showcased his skills against former cruiserweight Andrew Tabiti (20-2, 16 KOs). Huni’s high-volume punching secured him a ten-round unanimous decision, with scores of 100-90, 98-92, and 98-92. Despite Tabiti’s evident speed and power, he was criticized for not being aggressive enough, allowing the younger Huni to dominate the rounds. Huni’s victory, however, raised questions about his potential in the heavyweight division, especially concerning his power and ability to face top-tier opponents.
Super featherweight Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez (25-1, 25 KOs) delivered a commanding performance against veteran Oscar Escandon (27-7, 18 KOs). Nunez’s prowess was evident when he countered Escandon’s left hook with a powerful right, sending the 39-year-old to the canvas in the second round. The referee deemed Escandon unfit to continue, awarding Nunez a knockout victory. Post-fight, Nunez expressed his desire to face Cordina next, hinting at another exciting matchup in the future.
