WBC light welterweight champion Subriel Matias has emphatically denied any wrongdoing after testing positive for trace amounts of ostarine and confirmed that his January 10 title defense against Dalton Smith will continue as planned. The fight had come under scrutiny after Matias’ adverse finding, but he insists the result reflects contamination, not doping.

Matias took to social media to address the situation directly, stressing that the detected amount - 0.085 nanograms - falls below the 0.1 nanogram sanctionable limit. “I have never in my life doped, never,” Matias said. “Everything I’ve accomplished has been with sweat, with pure sweat… That’s contamination, that’s not doping.”

Had the WBC stripped Matias of his 140-pound title, Smith likely would have faced #2 contender Alberto Puello for the vacant belt, who is a far less dangerous opponent than Matias with his nonstop pressure and punching power. Instead, Smith will move ahead with the original matchup.

Matias reaffirmed repeatedly that the fight is unaffected and that he will step into the ring as scheduled. “I’m clean, I’m clean… The fight is going ahead,” he said, vowing that his record and accomplishments have come without shortcuts.
