Matchroom Boxing is stepping up its push into the Australian market after agreeing an eight-date broadcast arrangement with Fox Sports.
Matchroom has already established a footprint in Australia, overseeing George Kambosos Jnr vs. Jake Wyllie in Sydney in March 2025, Wyllie vs. Youssef Dib in August, and several co-promotions led by Jai Opetaia alongside Tasman Fighters. All of those events aired on DAZN, so Fox Sports agreement is a notable change in broadcast strategy.
The new partnership will see Matchroom share a broadcaster with No Limit, long regarded as Australia’s leading promotional outfit. However, the situation is not considered a conflict, given that DAZN acquired Foxtel - Fox Sports’ parent company - from News Corp and Telstra in 2025 in a deal valuing the business at $3.4 billion. Foxtel’s pay-per-view arm, Main Event, will also factor into the arrangement.
While Matchroom no longer works with Opetaia, who recently signed co-promotional terms with Zuffa Boxing, it continues to co-promote heavyweight contenders Justis Huni and Teremoana Teremoana with Tasman. The promotion’s longer-term Australian ambitions are expected to revolve around junior featherweight Skye Nicolson, with Jake Wyllie also viewed as a key contributor following his competitive showing against Kambosos Jnr and a December draw with Paul Fleming.
Speaking previously about Matchroom’s intentions in the region, Eddie Hearn underlined Australia’s appeal as a fight market. “We want to do at least four shows here a year,” Hearn said in January 2025. “I think it’s a great market. They understand their boxing… I think there’s a lot of potential.”
