Lawrence Okolie is set to return to the ring this weekend in a surprise heavyweight contest in Nigeria, marking his first fight since a unanimous decision win over Kevin Lerena at Wembley in July. The 32-year-old Brit will compete on Sunday in Lagos, stepping into unfamiliar territory as he continues his push in the heavyweight division.

Okolie will face Ebenezer Tetteh, a 37-year-old Ghanaian who previously shared the ring with Dillian Whyte in December 2024. That bout saw Tetteh stopped in the seventh round, and he has since suffered another setback, having been knocked out inside two minutes by Frazer Clarke earlier this year - the third defeat of his professional career.

The sudden announcement comes shortly after Okolie publicly called for an all-British heavyweight title clash with newly crowned WBO champion Fabio Wardley. While that fight did not materialise immediately, Okolie has made it clear that Wardley remains firmly in his sights if he emerges victorious in Lagos.

Speaking to The Ring, Okolie said he believes Wardley earned his title after Oleksandr Usyk did not pursue the fight, and described the matchup as the most direct route to a world title.
