Keyshawn Davis has revealed that he is preparing to move up to welterweight for what he described as a “championship fight” at 147 pounds. The Norfolk-born fighter said he already has a date lined up for his return and expects to be back in the ring sooner than many anticipate.
Davis’ path to the new division follows a turbulent period in his career. He was stripped of his WBO lightweight title after missing weight ahead of a planned defense against Edwin De Los Santos last June. Following that setback, Davis moved up to super lightweight and closed the year with a knockout victory over Jamaine Ortiz on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson.

After that win, Davis called for a shot at WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney, and Haney initially showed interest in the fight. However, negotiations between the two sides stalled.
In a recent interview with FightHub, the 27-year-old confirmed that discussions for his next bout have progressed and hinted that a title opportunity at welterweight is in place. Davis said he has been staying active in training while preparing for the upcoming fight.
The welterweight division currently features several developing situations among its champions. Haney has been linked to a potential unification fight with WBA titleholder Rolando Romero, while IBF champion Lewis Crocker is working to reschedule a bout with Liam Paro due to injury. Meanwhile, WBC champion Ryan Garcia is also exploring other options.
