With fight night looming, Keyshawn Davis is showing signs of irritation - not just with the pressure of his first WBO lightweight title defense, but with the words of his opponent, Edwin De Los Santos. The 25-year-old Davis admits that De Los Santos’ constant jabs at his skill level and resume are starting to “piss [him] off.”
De Los Santos, known for his aggression and brutal knockout of Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela, hasn’t held back. He’s questioned Davis’ boxing ability, called him “soft,” and even compared him unfavorably to Shakur Stevenson, suggesting Keyshawn is more hype than substance. The Dominican slugger’s blunt assessment has clearly struck a nerve.
“If he stops, he dies,” De Los Santos said, promising to punish Davis if he dares stand and trade in their ESPN/ESPN+ main event on June 7th at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Davis responded: “I feel like he’s just talking to promote the fight… but it’s [angering] me.” The Olympic silver medalist insists that his adaptability and skill will shine through, warning fans to “expect some s***” on fight night.
Some argue that De Los Santos has simply said what many fans are thinking - that Davis has yet to prove himself against top-tier opposition. His past opponents, including Denys Berinchyk and Gustavo Lemos, haven’t silenced skeptics. And with questions swirling about whether Davis is squeezing into a weight class beneath his natural frame, the pressure to deliver is mounting.
