Former two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, recently expressed his disappointment at the news that Tyson Fury, his domestic rival and current WBC world champion, signed an agreement to fight former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. This crossover boxing bout, set to take place on October 28th in Saudi Arabia, has left Joshua perplexed as he had hoped for a Fury-Oleksandr Usyk bout.
Fury and Joshua have engaged in several discussions about a potential fight in the past, but these never materialized. Recently, Fury proposed a fall fight, which Joshua declined in favor of his August 12th rematch with Dillian Whyte.
Fury also attempted to secure an undisputed fight with WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk, but they failed to agree on financial terms. Consequently, Fury chose a boxing match with Ngannou, who is making his professional debut in the sport. The fight will follow traditional boxing rules and will not involve Fury’s title.
Joshua expressed his dismay at Fury’s decision, questioning why he chose Ngannou over fighting for the undisputed heavyweight championship. However, he also acknowledged that Fury’s decisions are his own business, wishing him good luck with the upcoming bout.
