Former junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia has opted not to pursue a vacant super middleweight title shot, turning down an invitation from the IBF to face unbeaten contender Osleys Iglesias.
According to Iglesias’ promoter Camille Estephan, Munguia “has other plans,” as his team has hinted at a possible return later in the spring after fighting just once in 2025 - a decision win over Bruno Surace that followed a controversial period tied to a post-fight drug-testing investigation.
With Munguia stepping aside, attention shifts to the IBF rankings. England’s Hamzah Sheeraz is next in line, assuming Callum Simpson is removed following his recent knockout loss. However, Sheeraz is already tied up with separate title orders from both the WBC and WBO, making his availability uncertain.
If Sheeraz also passes, the process is expected to continue down the rankings, potentially landing on Russia’s Pavel Silyagin, who remains active and eligible. Meanwhile, Iglesias’ team has made clear that their fighter is ready to move forward with any opponent placed in front of him.
