Luis Nery’s return to Japan turned into a brutal collapse - John Riel Casimero dropped him six times on the way to a fourth-round knockout win in Aichi.

The defeat came less than 24 hours after Nery missed weight again, coming in three pounds over the contracted 124-pound limit. He first weighed 127.5 pounds and only got down to 127 during the extension period, which is his fourth weight miss of his professional career.

Nery’s history with the scales has followed him for years. In 2018, he lost his WBC title on the scales before his rematch with Shinsuke Yamanaka and was handed a lifetime ban by the Japan Boxing Commission, which was later lifted.

Casimero made him pay immediately. The Filipino dropped Nery three times in the opening round, once in the second, once in the third, and finally ended the fight in round four. For a fighter once known as one of the most dangerous punchers in the lower weights, it was a shocking fall.

All three losses of Nery’s career have now come by stoppage, and this one may be the most damaging. At 31, the talent is still there, but the pattern is hard to ignore: missed weight, controversy, and now a punishing six-knockdown defeat that leaves his future under serious doubt.
