Eddie Hearn wants Rolly Romero ordered into a fight with Jack Catterall within 90 days, rather than waiting the full 180-day window set by the WBA. Catterall captured the vacant WBA “regular” welterweight title in Egypt with a unanimous decision over Shakhram Giyasov, and Hearn believes the newly crowned champion should not be left waiting.
Hearn praised both Catterall and Giyasov for taking the risk after long waits as mandatory challengers. “They are two avoided guys, and they were both mandatories with governing bodies,” Hearn said. “They decided to just roll the dice, and they deserve all the credit and respect for that.” He added that Catterall “started fast, he was aggressive,” but made clear Matchroom now wants “the full portion” of the championship.
The WBA has already ordered Romero, now the WBA “Super” champion, to face the winner within 180 days. Hearn does not want the process dragged out, especially after Giyasov had already spent months waiting for a shot. “Why wait 180 days? We don’t need 180 days. 90 sounds better,” Hearn said.
Romero has not fought since defeating Ryan Garcia on May 2, 2025, but was recently elevated to “Super” champion status by the WBA.
