From undisputed champion to comeback contender, Josh Taylor is stepping into the familiar fire once again. On Saturday night at the OVO Hydro, the 34-year-old Scot returns to action against Ekow Essuman, looking to silence doubters and relight his career at welterweight.

It’s been a tough stretch. After a controversial win over Jack Catterall, Taylor dropped back-to-back fights to Teofimo Lopez and Catterall in their rematch. But sitting by the River Clyde, Taylor spoke with BoxingScene like a man renewed. “I love boxing. I love fighting. I just love everything about it,” he said, brushing off questions about retirement despite admitting, “I could walk away tomorrow a happy man.”

This week, however, he’s not walking away. He’s walking into another test. Essuman is undefeated and confident, the kind of fighter who could drag Taylor into deep waters. That’s fine by the former undisputed super lightweight king. “Mentally, I’m prepared for that kind of fight,” he said. “It’ll be a tear-up at times.”

The Hydro has been the scene of some of Taylor’s finest nights, and Saturday could either be a stirring return or a sobering reminder of time’s toll. But for Taylor, legacy isn’t about ending with a spotless record—it’s about fighting on his own terms, for his people, and proving that a challenger’s mindset never fades.
