Devin Haney may soon be ordered to defend his WBO welterweight title against Keyshawn Davis, with the sanctioning body elevating Davis to the No. 1 spot at 147lbs.
A former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis has moved up in weight after issues making 135lbs and 140lbs. He lost his lightweight title on the scales before his canceled fight with Edwin De Los Santos, then needed two attempts to make weight before beating Nahir Albright at junior welterweight.
Now the WBO has rewarded his recent form and placed him directly behind Haney. Davis earned the rise after stopping Jamaine Ortiz and then outpointing Albright, putting him ahead of names such as Manny Pacquiao, Teofimo Lopez, Brian Norman Jr. and Arnold Barboza Jr.
The mandatory is expected to be due in August, and Davis now looks like the likely challenger if the WBO moves forward with the order. With Haney still not tied to a confirmed Zuffa Boxing agreement, the path to the fight may be more open than before.
