It looks like Devin Haney has dusted off the gloves and returned to the gym! The former two-weight champ, who hasn’t fought since that controversial April match against Ryan Garcia, is ready to show he still has plenty left in the tank. You might recall that “King Ry’s” no-contest result came after Garcia failed to make weight, scored multiple knockdowns, and then tested hot - turning a would-be upset into a massive headache for everyone involved.
Fans are buzzing at the possibility of a rematch, though the biggest hurdle is deciding what weight class both guys can agree on. Haney, who briefly held the WBC 140 title, vacated it out of frustration. Meanwhile, Garcia is rumored to be flirting with the welterweight division. Can Haney, at 26, and Garcia, suspended until mid-April 2025, find a catch weight that suits them both? If so, it could be a major event, especially with all the unfinished business swirling around their first fight.
Keep in mind, Haney’s got other options, too. Before dropping his belt at 140, he racked up big wins over the likes of George Kambosos Jr and Vasiliy Lomachenko. But after the drama of the last fight - plus time away - he might need a tune-up to dust off any lingering ring rust. If he’s back to top form, “The Dream” could still create problems for the entire lightweight-to-welterweight landscape.
As for Garcia, he’s also due for a serious comeback statement. If these two can bury the hatchet, a 2025 rematch might be just the ticket. Who do you think wins the second time around?
