Devin Haney and Regis Prograis have come to an agreement to vie for Prograis’ WBC junior welterweight title. This eagerly anticipated 140-pound bout is set to take place on October 28 in Las Vegas.

After retaining his undisputed lightweight championship with a unanimous decision against future Hall of Famer Vasiliy Lomachenko in May, Haney, aged 24, is scheduled to make a return to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. Having previously promoted six of Haney’s fights on DAZN, this partnership is familiar territory for the American boxer.

Haney’s most recent move was signing with Top Rank, following his victory over Joseph Diaz Jr., with the intention of pursuing a fight with George Kambosos in Australia for the undisputed lightweight championship. Haney, who resides and trains in Las Vegas, was victorious in both his June 2022 fight with Kambosos, as well as the subsequent rematch in Melbourne in October.

As he prepares for his debut in the 140-pound category, Haney is faced with the formidable task of squaring off against Prograis, a dangerous southpaw known for his punching power. Hailing from New Orleans, Prograis is ESPN’s 3rd ranked junior welterweight. Following his victory over Jose Zepeda, which saw him reclaim his status as a two-time champion at 140 pounds, Prograis signed a three-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing.

For Haney, a win over Prograis could secure him the coveted title of Fighter of the Year.
