Prominent boxing figure Gervonta Davis was unexpectedly taken into custody on Thursday after a surprise court hearing, leading to his transportation to Baltimore City Central Booking Intake Facility, as reported by a spokesperson from the Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office. Davis had been serving a 90-day house arrest sentence at his trainer Calvin Ford’s home following his guilty plea to four charges linked to a November 2020 hit-and-run incident which resulted in injuries to four people, including a pregnant woman.

The reason behind Davis’s sudden court appearance and subsequent detainment is yet unclear, with Michael Tomko, Davis’s attorney, referring to the event as an “impromptu” hearing. Further details about the situation were not released by the sheriff’s office, leaving the circumstances shrouded in uncertainty. This recent development comes on the heels of Davis’s sentencing last month to three years’ probation and 200 hours of community service.

Interestingly, Davis’s arrest happened less than two weeks after his significant victory against Ryan Garcia, achieved through a seventh-round TKO. The Baltimore-born boxer was also facing a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, although this case was dropped last week after the accuser decided not to press charges. This sequence of events presents a turbulent time for Davis, leaving fans and spectators to wonder what this means for his future boxing career.
