Unbeaten George Liddard has outlined his ambitions to fight for a world title within the next 18 months following his victory over Tyler Denny in London.

Liddard retained his British and Commonwealth middleweight titles at the Copper Box Arena, also picking up the vacant IBF intercontinental belt. The 23-year-old went the full 12 rounds for the first time in his career, earning a decision in a competitive fight.

“We got the job done, it wasn’t always pretty, but these are the fights at a high level,” Liddard said. “I’ve got a W next to my name and that’s all that matters.”

He admitted he expected an earlier finish but credited Denny for staying in the fight. “I thought I’d catch him early… but he weathered the storm and gave me a good fight,” Liddard added. “We finished strong… I showed a lot of heart which you can’t teach.”

Liddard previously won the British and Commonwealth titles with a stoppage of Kieron Conway, and the win over Denny marked a step up in terms of rounds and opposition.

Despite the physical demands of the fight, he confirmed he would still take part in the Brentwood half marathon shortly after. “I’ll be there though, I’m a man of my word,” he said.

Looking ahead, Liddard has the option to secure the Lonsdale belt outright with further defenses, but his focus is on bigger opportunities. “I’m in this game to do some big things… I want to keep pushing on,” he said.

“I believe I’ve got the potential to go on and be a world champion within the next 18 months. The middleweight landscape is very open right now… I’m not here to mess about. I’m here to try my luck.”
