Frank Warren, the promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is gearing up for a thrilling encounter as Fury prepares to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a non-title bout. Scheduled for October 28 in Saudi Arabia, the match sees Ngannou stepping into the boxing ring for his professional debut, making him a significant underdog against the widely recognized top heavyweight, Fury.
In an interesting turn of events, Ngannou has enlisted the expertise of former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson for his training. Intriguingly, Tyson is the namesake of Fury, adding another layer to the narrative. Despite Ngannou’s powerful reputation in the UFC, Warren remains skeptical about his chances to outbox Fury. Instead, he envisions a bout dominated by powerful punches from both sides. “I can’t see him outboxing Tyson,” Warren commented to Talk Sport, “I think there is going to be a shootout.”
Warren believes that Ngannou’s strategy will revolve around seeking a knockout, leading to an aggressive, head-to-head battle. “Tyson's last few fights, he hasn’t exactly come out and boxed; he has gone out and traded with people. So I think it’s going to be bombs away,” Warren added.
While the Fury-Ngannou bout promises to be a grand spectacle, Warren also expressed his desire to see Fury take on IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk in a unification bout in the future. However, he acknowledges that the decision ultimately rests with Fury. “Tyson is his own man and he will decide what he wants to do,” Warren concluded.
