Tyson Fury, WBC heavyweight champion, hasn’t received any fight offers this year, according to his co-promoter Frank Warren. Despite being inactive since his victory against Derek Chisora last December, Fury has been actively seeking opponents. An initial prospect was an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk, but disagreements over financial terms for the rematch halted the plan.
Hopes of a much-anticipated bout with Anthony Joshua were also dashed, as Joshua has pivoted towards a fight against Deontay Wilder, scheduled for early 2024. Attempts to bring Andy Ruiz or Zhilei Zhang to the ring with Fury proved fruitless as well. Nevertheless, a unique cross-sport boxing match against former UFC champion, Francis Ngannou, has been finalized for October 28 in Saudi Arabia, with traditional boxing rules but without the WBC title on the line.
Warren expressed frustration at the lack of engagement from potential rivals. “We made offers, that’s a fact, but there’s not been one offer to Tyson Fury this year,” he disclosed in a conversation with William Hill. Warren also emphasized Fury's commitment to fighting in the UK, mentioning potential venues like Wembley and West Ham’s stadium which had been considered for major bouts. Fury remains ready and waiting for the next formidable challenge.
