Frank Warren has confirmed that Tyson Fury will fight again before facing Anthony Joshua, but dismissed rumors that both heavyweights will appear on the same card in July.
Joshua is scheduled to face Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25 as a warm-up bout before the planned Fury showdown later in the year. Fury is also expected to take an interim fight, but Warren made clear it will not happen on Joshua’s card.
“That’s not happening,” Warren said when asked about the possibility of Fury and Joshua fighting on the same bill. The current plan remains for Fury and Joshua to meet in November, with Warren saying the hope is for the fight to take place in the UK.
Fury returned in April with a win over Arslanbek Makhmudov after another spell away from the ring. According to Warren, the former champion does not want another long gap before the Joshua fight and is keen to stay active.
Joshua, meanwhile, wanted a warm-up fight before facing Fury after a difficult period outside the ring. His July bout with Prenga is expected to serve as the final step before the long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash.
